Handbuilding & surface decoration course

During this one day course you will be working with slabs to produce tiles and a slab built vessel, which will then be decorated using a range of surface decoration techniques.

You will be using red terracotta clay to produce up to six tiles which you’ll decorate using a wide range of surface decoration techniques. These will include the use of coloured slips, sgraffito, inlay, wax and paper resist and mono-printing. You’ll also build and decorate a vase or lidded pot using some of these techniques.

Your finished pieces will be fired and glazed with a clear glaze after the course, ready for you to collect four weeks later.

The course will be taught by Ian Beckton who has over two decades of experience of handbuilding and decorating earthenware.

This one day course is suitable for both beginners and improvers.

Students are asked to bring their own packed lunch but tea and coffee will be provided.
